Logging Medication Administration

How to log medication administration and refusals, as a DSP, in the mobile app.

Updated over a week ago

By default, you must be clocked into your shift and running a service in order to record medication administration or medication refusals for that client. Admins may allow you to log medications after the shift ends (setting enabled through the Giv dashboard).

The medications listed in the client’s profile were added by your admin team through the Giv dashboard.

Step 1: open the shift

If the shift is active:

  1. Login to the app

  2. Tap View shift at the top of the Home screen

  3. Select the client under the Clients section

If the shift is completed:

  1. Login to the app

  2. Scroll down to the Shifts section on the Home screen

  3. Select the Past tab

  4. Tap the past shift you want to add notes

  5. Select the client under the Clients section

Step 2: access the medications tile

  1. Tap the Meds tile near the top of the client’s screen

You will see a list of medications sorted by medication type. This list of medications have been assigned to the client by the agency admins.

Note: If no medications appear, the client has no medications assigned to them in their client profile. Contact your admin team.

Step 3: log a medication event

Track medication administration by individual medication or in bulk for the same medication type, as well as track any refusals.

Option 1: track individual medication administration

To log individual medication events:

  1. Select the medication (e.g., Levothyroxine)

  2. Add the time administered

  3. Fill out each field—these are customized by your agency admin

  4. Tap Log Administration

Option 2: track medication administration in bulk

If there are multiple medications with the same type, you will be able to log all at once:

  1. Tap Log multiple next to the medication type

  2. Select the boxes next to each medication you want to track

  3. Tap Proceed

  4. Fill out each field—these are customized by your agency admin

    • The fields in the top section will be applied to all selected medications. You can expand any of the individual medications below to edit its individual fields.

  5. Tap Log administrations

Option 3: track medication refusals

If a client refuses medication:

  1. Select the medication

  2. Turn on the toggle at the top (named Enabling this indicates that the client refused to take the medication)

  3. Add the Time refused

  4. Enter refusal Details

  5. Tap Log Refusal

Step 4: view med history

When in the Meds tile, tap View history in the top left. The history will show all medication administrations and refusals. Clicking on any entry will pull up more information about that instance.
