Adding Shift and Client-Specific Notes

How to add shift notes and client-specific notes, as a DSP, in the mobile app.

By default, you must be clocked into your shift and running a service in order to log any notes for that shift. Admins may allow you to enter notes after the shift ends (setting enabled through the Giv Dashboard).

Where to find shift notes

  1. Login to the app

  2. Tap View shift at the top of the Home screen

  3. Select the client you are in service with (listed under Clients)

  4. Tap the Notes tile near the top of the screen


Required shift notes

Once you tap the Notes tile, all of the shift notes assigned to the client will be listed. Some of these notes will be marked Required, which must be filled out before you can clock out of your shift.

If you try to clock out without completing required shift notes:

  • This message will appear: “You must complete all required Client Notes before checking out clients or clocking out.”

  • You will remain clocked in


How to complete notes

  1. Tap the Notes tile

  2. Answer each question fully—these are usually written by your agency admin

  3. Tap Save

Once all required notes are completed, you will be allowed to clock out. The data is stored at the shift level and tied to the client.

Notes may be assigned to all clients or client-specific, meaning only certain individuals will have unique shift notes. These notes are created and assigned by your agency in the Giv dashboard under the client profile.

Note: if the Notes tile is empty, the client doesn’t have any shift notes assigned to their profile. Contact your admin to verify if notes should be assigned to the individual.


Adding notes after a completed shift

If enabled by your admin team, you can also go back in later and add shift notes (after the shift completes).

To access completed shifts:

  1. Login to the app

  2. Scroll down to the Shifts section on the Home screen

  3. Select the Past tab

  4. Tap the past shift you want to add notes

  5. Select the client under the Clients section

  6. Tap the Notes tile

  7. Fill out the notes

  8. Tap Save
