A medication type is a customizable questionnaire or form template that determines which questions a DSP must answer each time they administer, or attempt to administer, medication to a client.
Medication types help ensure documentation aligns with agency requirements, compliance standards, and internal workflows.
You can create different medication types for different medications to capture the appropriate information. For example, a standard oral tablet may only require a signature and administration time, while an insulin injection may also require blood glucose readings and the number of units administered.
For more information on adding medications to a client's plan and tracking medication events, see Managing Medications in the Client Profile.
Note: When adding a medication to a client's profile, you can select a medication type. If no medication type is selected, caregivers will only be required to enter the administration time and general details.
