Logging Medication Events

How to log med administration and refusals in the mobile app.

Record all medication events—including both administrations and refusals—during your shift.

By default, you must be clocked in and running a service to record medication events for a client. However, admins can enable a setting in the Dashboard that allows you to log administrations and refusals after your shift has ended.

Step 1: Navigating to Medications

To view medications during an active shift:

  1. Login to the app

  2. Tap View shift at the top of the Home screen

  3. Select the client under the Clients section

  4. Tap the Meds tile near the top of the screen

The medications displayed are assigned by your admin team for that client. If no medications appear, the client does not have any assigned in their profile—please contact your admin team for assistance.

Step 2: Logging Medication Events

Track medication administration by individual medication or in bulk for the same medication type.

Option 1: Track Individual Med Administration

To log individual medication events:

  1. Select the medication

  2. Add the Time Administered

  3. Fill out each field

  4. Tap Log Administration

Option 2: Track Med Administration in Bulk

If there are multiple medications with the same medication type, you will be able to log all at once:

  1. Tap Log multiple next to the medication type

  2. Select the boxes next to each medication you want to track

  3. Tap Proceed

  4. Fill out each field

    • The fields in the top section will be applied to all selected medications. You can expand any of the individual medications below to edit its individual fields.

  5. Tap Log administrations

Medication administrations are stored at the shift level and tied to the client. Staff may use the microphone feature on their phone to dictate the details instead of typing, if preferred.

Step 3: Logging Medication Refusals

If a client refuses medication:

  1. Select the medication

  2. Turn on the toggle at the top (named Enabling this indicates that the client refused to take the medication)

  3. Add the Time refused

  4. Enter refusal Details

  5. Tap Log Refusal

Medication refusals are also stored at the shift level and tied to the client. Staff may use the microphone feature on their phone to dictate the details instead of typing, if preferred.

Reviewing Medication History

To view submitted medication activities during an active shift:

  1. Tap View shift at the top of the Home screen

  2. Select the client under the Clients section

  3. Tap the Meds tile near the top of the screen

  4. Tap View History

All medication events recorded during the shift will appear here. Tap any entry to view its full details. Make sure each entry is associated with the correct service and time.

Recording Medication Events After a Completed Shift

If enabled by your admin team, you can also go back in later and log medication events after the shift is completed.

To access completed shifts:

  1. Login to the app

  2. Scroll down to the Shifts section on the Home screen

  3. Select the Past tab

  4. Tap the past shift you want to add notes

  5. Select the client under the Clients section

  6. Tap the Meds tile

  7. Fill out the details

  8. Tap Save

If setup by your admin team, you may receive medication administration alerts when running services with a client.

After administering the medication, tap on the notification to open the Giv app and log that event.
