Completing Your Payroll Onboarding as a Staff Member

How to complete your payroll onboarding in the Dashboard or mobile app.

Once your employer adds you to payroll, you'll need to provide some information before you can be paid. Follow the steps below to complete your payroll onboarding, then learn how to update your information and access your pay stubs and tax documents.

Step 1: Getting Your Onboarding Link

After your employer adds you to payroll and assigns you a pay schedule, you'll receive your payroll onboarding link by email. Open the link in the email to get started.

Important: The onboarding link expires after 24 hours. If it expires before you finish, you can still access and update your payroll information by logging in to the Dashboard or mobile app and going to your Profile.

Step 2: Entering Your Payroll Information

Complete the required payroll information, including:

  • Social Security number

  • Direct deposit information

  • Tax withholding elections (W-4)

You may also be able to add eligible benefits and deductions as part of your payroll setup.

Note: If you don't make a withholding election, your federal and state tax withholding will default to Single with 0 allowances.

Step 3: Reviewing and Submitting Your Information

Review the information you've entered to make sure it's accurate and complete. Then submit your payroll onboarding.

Once your information is submitted, your employer can process your pay through payroll.

Updating Your Payroll Information

You can update your payroll information at any time after completing your onboarding. For example, you may need to update your tax withholding if your circumstances change.

To update your information, first access Payroll Details using the Dashboard or mobile app.

Dashboard

  1. Log in to the Dashboard.

  2. Click your profile in the top-right corner.

  3. Select My Profile.

  4. In the Payroll Details tab, click Edit Details.

Mobile App

  1. Log in to the mobile app.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Profile.

  4. In the Payroll Details tab, tap Edit Details.

Updating Your Tax Withholding

Once you have opened Payroll Details:

  1. Select Tax Withholding.

  2. Select your state W-4.

  3. Select Regenerate Form and Sign.

  4. Complete and sign the form to submit your updated withholding information.

Adding Benefits and Deductions

You can add eligible benefits and deductions during your payroll onboarding. If you have questions or need help with a more complex situation, contact your employer or Giv Support.

Viewing Your Pay Stubs and Tax Documents

Once your payroll setup is complete, you can view your pay stubs and tax documents at any time.

  • Dashboard: Click your profile in the top-right corner, then select My Profile.

  • Mobile app: Go to Settings > Profile.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline

Try to complete your payroll onboarding at least five business days before your first payroll. If you miss the deadline, the following may apply:

  • No direct deposit information on file: You may be paid manually by cash or paper check.

  • No W-4 on file: More tax may be withheld than you would otherwise choose.

  • No Social Security number on file: You cannot be paid until your Social Security number is added.

Note: Payroll can still run on time for everyone else if you miss the deadline. Completing your onboarding as early as possible helps prevent delays or issues with your pay.
