Understanding Person Specific Training

Understanding what Person Specific Training is and how it works in Giv.

Person Specific Training (also known as person-centered, client-specific, individual-specific, or person-supported training) helps DSPs understand and acknowledge the unique needs, preferences, abilities, risks, routines, and support requirements of each client they serve. It prepares DSPs to provide safe, individualized, person-centered support while following the client's ISP, care plans, behavioral plans, health protocols, and other client-specific instructions.

In Giv, Person-Specific Training pulls information from the client's profile, including Basic Info, Medications, Behavior Plans, Human Rights, Goals, and Documents.

Giv requires DSPs to complete Person Specific Training when:

  • It is the DSP's first time working with the client

  • More than 30 days have passed since the DSP's last shift with the client

  • Information in the client's profile has been updated

When training is required, DSPs are prompted in the mobile app to review and acknowledge the client's information before starting services or accessing the client's details.

Each acknowledgment is recorded in the client's Training Logs, providing agencies with a record of when DSPs reviewed and acknowledged the client-specific information.

How Person Specific Training Works in Giv

When Person Specific Training is required, a prompt in the mobile app will prevent the DSP from continuing until the training is completed. Depending on where they access the client, this may prevent them from starting services, viewing client information, or completing charting.

Step 1: Encountering the Training Prompt

When Person Specific Training is required, DSPs will see a training prompt in the mobile app.

The prompt varies depending on how the DSP accesses the client. It may display Training required, Needs Client Specific Training, or a red icon next to the client's name.

Step 2: Reviewing and Acknowledging Person Specific Training

When the DSP sees the training prompt, they must review and acknowledge the client's information:

  1. Select the client

  2. Review the information provided

  3. Check I agree to the above statement at the bottom of the screen

  4. Tap Acknowledge

Once acknowledged, the DSP can continue accessing the client's information and, when applicable, start services and complete shift documentation.

Updating Client Information for Person Specific Training

When information used for Person Specific Training is updated, DSPs will be required to review and acknowledge the client's information again. This includes changes to Basic Info, Client Plans, Medications, and Documents.

To update the client's information:

  1. Click Clients in the left menu

  2. Search for and select the client

  3. Update the appropriate information in the client's profile

Note: Best practice is to keep the client's profile information complete, current, and concise.

Accessing Training Logs

Training Logs provide a record of each Person Specific Training acknowledgment, allowing agencies to verify that DSPs have reviewed the client's information and view previous acknowledgments.

To access Training Logs:

  1. Click Clients in the left menu

  2. Search for and select the client

  3. Click Training Logs in the slide-out menu

From Training Logs, you can:

  • Use the search bar to find a specific staff member

  • Click a column name to sort the results

  • Click Profile to view the staff member's profile
