Running Your First Shift
Once your agency has completed its initial setup, you're ready to begin using Giv for day-to-day services. Every shift completed in Giv helps create the documentation and records your agency relies on. As staff document the services they provide, Giv automatically organizes that information for timesheets, billing, reporting, and more.
Starting a Shift
Depending on your agency's configuration, you may either:
Open a scheduled shift from your schedule, or
Start a new impromptu shift if your administrator has enabled that option.
Once you've opened your shift, you'll be guided through the rest of the workflow.
Completing a Shift
A typical shift follows these steps:
Open your scheduled shift or select New Shift.
Select the individual you're supporting.
Select the service you're providing.
Clock in and begin providing services.
Review any important client information, such as Person Specific Training or alerts.
Complete any required documentation during your shift.
If the service you're providing changes, switch to the appropriate service within the shift.
Clock out when your work is complete.
Your agency may require additional documentation before you're allowed to end your shift.
Completing Required Documentation
As you work, Giv may prompt you to complete documentation based on your agency's requirements.
This may include:
Shift Notes
Goal tracking
Medication administration
Incident Reports
Custom Forms
The documentation you see will depend on how your agency has configured Giv.
Changing Services During a Shift
Sometimes the work you're providing changes throughout the day. If that happens, simply switch to the appropriate service within your shift. Giv will accurately track the time spent providing each service, helping ensure documentation and billing remain accurate.
Clocking Out
Before ending your shift, review any required documentation to ensure everything has been completed. Once you clock out, Giv automatically processes the information you've entered and makes it available for other workflows throughout the platform.
Depending on your agency's configuration, this information may be used to generate:
Timesheets
Billing records
Service documentation
Authorization tracking
Reports and analytics
