A DSP's Daily Workflow

Learn what a typical day looks like for a Direct Support Professional (DSP) using Giv, from starting a shift to completing documentation and clocking out.

For most Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Giv is used throughout the day to document services, track time, and record the support provided to individuals.

While every agency's workflows are unique, the daily experience in Giv follows a consistent process that's designed to be simple and easy to use.

Start Your Shift

Begin by opening the Giv mobile app and selecting your scheduled shift. If your agency allows impromptu shifts, you may also have the option to start a new shift.

After opening your shift:

  • Select the individual you're supporting (if applicable)

  • Confirm the service you'll be providing

  • Clock in to begin your shift

Review Important Client Information

Before providing services, take a moment to review any important information that has been shared for the individual you're supporting.

Depending on your agency's configuration, this may include:

  • Person Specific Training

  • Alerts or notifications

  • Care instructions

  • Other important client information

Reviewing this information helps ensure you're prepared to provide safe, consistent support.

Document Services Throughout the Shift

As you provide services, Giv will guide you through any documentation required by your agency.

This may include:

  • Completing Shift Notes

  • Logging progress toward Goals

  • Recording Medication administration

  • Completing Custom Forms

  • Submitting Incident Reports when necessary

Your agency determines which documentation is required and when it must be completed.

Switch Services When Needed

If the type of service you're providing changes during your shift, simply switch to the appropriate service in Giv. This allows your documentation, authorization tracking, and billing records to accurately reflect the services that were delivered.

End Your Shift

When your work is complete:

  1. Review any required documentation.

  2. Complete any remaining tasks.

  3. Clock out.

Once you end your shift, Giv automatically saves your work and updates the records your agency uses for documentation, timesheets, billing, and reporting.

Tips for Success

Using Giv becomes second nature with practice. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of the platform:

  • Complete documentation as close to real time as possible.

  • Review client information before beginning services.

  • Record services accurately if they change during the shift.

  • Don't hesitate to ask questions if you're unsure about a workflow.

The more accurately you document your day, the more effectively Giv can support your agency's operations.
